Sunday 18 May 2014 - Grangewaters, South Ockendon, Essex

Kindly hosted by Grangewaters Working Newfoundlands

Test Manager - Mrs. Tina Roberts

Graham and Jan Hill with Maia after her Section D pass
Congratulations to Graham and Jan Hill on Maia's Section D pass, the highest level pass of the day.

"I would like to start with a big thanks to all judges and stewards for their hard work in making this another successful water test. It was lovely to see so many old friends and hopefully some new ones, it was great that so many people wanted to help out wherever they could.

We had a problem loosing one of the swims, but as usual found a solution and the test went off without too much of a delay. The stunning weather was an added bonus to a great day at Grangewaters.

Hope to see you all soon."

Judges Reports - Section A

"Many thanks to the SNC and Grangewaters Newfoundlands for inviting me to judge at this super venue. The weather was superb!

We had ten dogs that passed and one fail. The one that failed was clearly good enough to pass but was distracted by the surroundings and clearly not interested on the day. All of the nine passes were very good and we had one perfect pass.

Many thanks to the Test Manager, Tina, and all the Grangewaters members, stewards and everybody who helped make my day so enjoyable. Last, but not least, many thanks to my co-judge Keith for all his help on my first water judging appointment."

Judges Reports - Section B

"We would like to thank the SNC for inviting us to judge, and thank the Grangewaters team for their welcome and hospitality; as usual the sun was shining.

We had 10 entries, 5 passed. Unfortunately on the day the heat proved a little much for some of the dogs attention span.

Congratulations to all that passed, hopefully those that failed will succeed in their next attempt. Thanks to my fellow judge and all the stewards and support staff."

Kevin Clarke & Kay Burridge

SECTION C
Entrants: 5      Passes: 0      Withdrawn: 1
Judges: Ronnie Chadwick & Keith Sargeant

"Four entries at this level, unfortunately no passes. The trend was for each dog to do three elements perfectly and then lose the plot in the other element, usually the controlled swim, although we did have a perfect example of how to do the swim but she unfortunately failed the first element. We did see some lovely work from all four entrants so hopefully there will be some passes in the future. The weather was lovely and sunny at least!"

Ronnie Chadwick

SECTION D
Entrants: 3      Passes: 1
Judges: Clive Haylock & Kevin Mercer

Congratulations to:

Hill's Alphabear Ocean Blue for Ableseanewf "Maia"

Judges Reports - Section D

"Three entries of which one passed, an excellent pass completing all exercises to a high standard, Well Done. Handlers need to remember to request a restart before physically redirecting their dog. Some others really close to passing but didn't complete all the elements today."

Kevin Mercer

SECTION E
Entrants: 2      Passes: 0
Judges: Kevin Mercer & Ronnie Chadwick

Judges Reports - Section E

"Two entrants, unfortunately no passes. Both entrants withdrew before completing all the elements. Handlers need to give clear commands and make sure restarts are requested before physically redirecting their dogs. Both entrants showed true potential and I'm sure will pass in future.

Thank you Grangewaters for organizing this event and the excellent team of stewards."

Kevin Mercer

"This was the first test of the day, with two dogs entered. Sadly none passed, the first entrant was keen but not really concentrating; the second had no intention of working and just enjoyed swimming around."

Ronnie Chadwick
