SNC WATER TESTS SECTIONS A - E

Saturday 14 & Sunday 15 May 2016 - Grangewaters Activity Centre, South Ockendon, Essex

Kindly hosted by Grangewaters Working Newfoundlands

Test Manager - Tina Roberts

Paul Scrutton's Bonzo
Congratulations to Paul Scrutton on Bonzo's Section D pass, the highest level pass of the wseekend.

"I would like to start with a thank you to all the judges and stewards that made this a very enjoyable weekend. With a large entry of 66 dogs and 61 taking part over the two days it tends to get a bit hectic.

The weather on Saturday was very cold and windy, which made it difficult for the dogs and for me trying to keep my paperwork from flying away. Sunday was a better day weather wise, still breezy but the sun was out most of the time.

A big thank you to all that took part and hope to see you all again very soon."

Tina Roberts

Judges Reports - Section A

"It is always a joy to judge the puppies and novices in Section A also as it was my co-judge Hailey's first appointment it was good to have an entry of 22 dogs.

There were some very good passes and always more exciting for a first timer. The few who failed did so because they ran over the 3 minute time limit and as it was something new to these puppies this is understandable & with a little more training will take it all in their stride. Added to this was the fact that it is early in the season and there has not been time for very much training.

I would like to offer a little advice, as I did on the day, about the importance of wetting your dog before the test, this allows them to get accustomed to the test area and so concentrate more when the test begins.

My thanks to co-judge Hailey who I thought did very well indeed and I hope she goes on to enjoying judging as much as I have.

Also many thanks to the stewards on the day and the Grangewaters Group for the well organized and run test that we have become accustomed to."

Keith Sargeant

I would like to thank the SNC for giving me the opportunity to judge my first appointment at Grangewaters."

We had a fantastic entry for section A, with some very enthusiastic passes; the few that didn't make it on this occasion were so close ... just narrowly ran out of time. It was lovely to see so many first time entrants who took on the spirit of the occasion with both dogs and handlers enjoying the day. Some very promising youngsters to look out for in the future.

I had a thoroughly enjoyable day co-judging with Keith; who I would like to thank for his guidance and support on the day, to all the stewards at Grangewaters and entrants."

Hailey Webb

Judges Reports - Section C

"Thank you to the10 entries today we had today, we had 3 very nice passes. There seemed to be no consistent exercise fails, with the dogs seemingly failing one element of their choice, the controlled swim were nicely executed in most cases.

Thanks to the SNC for inviting us to judge at this event and a big thank you to team Grangewaters for a fantastic day. Well done Tina on a well organized test weekend. As usual the food was fab."

Peter Webber & Kay Burridge

DAY 1 RESULTS - SECTION E
Entrants: 4      Passes: 0
Judges: Kevin Mercer & Clive Haylock

Judges Reports - Section E

"Great to see four entries in Section E but unfortunately no passes today. As usual some dogs just not 'switched on' and some others very close to passing.

There were some excellent exercises with examples of great verbal redirection. Find the hidden rope and tow boat to shore seemed the best exercise for most. Only 1 dog completed exercise 1 while no dogs completed exercise 3 and 4 successfully (directed tow of 1 of 2 persons or the boat tow to boat) some obvious elements to work on.

Thanks to entrants and stewards for an enjoyable morning. Thank you to Grangewaters for putting on another superb event."

Kevin Mercer & Clive Haylock

Chris Roberts & Ronnie Chadwick

DAY 2 RESULTS - SECTION D
Entrants: 9      Passes: 1
Judges: Karen Thompson & Clive Haylock

Congratulations to:

Scrutton's Freddybears Bonzo "Bonzo"

Judges Reports - Section D

"An excellent number of dogs, 1 pass, some not quite there - we did award one ASBO - you know who you are!!

Standards we felt were really high in most elements, the main stumbling block seems to be D1. With the new regs now in place it does take some sorting out - the stewards in the boat. If the dog does swim around the boat it gives a little time to get everyone into the right position. Can get a bit messy if the dog swims at the side of the boat.

Had some excellent stewards, it is very important at these levels to have someone who can give firm commands when needed. Thank you all.

A big thank you to all entrants for giving us the pleasure of judging your wonderful dogs. Thanks to all at Grangewaters for a lovely day."
