Showing your Newfoundland - Awards
BECOMING A "CHAMPION" (in the UK)
In order for your dog to have the title Champion added to it's name it must win three Challenge Certificates ( CC's ) from three different judges.
At least one of these CCs have to be gained when the dog is over 12 months of age.
There is no upper time limit to attaining the title of Champion.
GAINING A "JUNIOR WARRANT"
In order for your dog to have the title Junior Warrant (JW) added to its name it must collect 25 JW points. A Junior Warrant is open to dogs between
the ages of 6 months and 18 months. These points are collected from Open and Champ shows. At a Champ show 3 points are awarded for a 1st place win provided
there are at least three dogs present in the class, at an open show 1 point is awarded for a 1st place win provided there are at least three dogs present
in the class. However, at an Open show if there are not enough dogs present in the class but you win Best of Breed you are awarded 1 point. Gaining a
point in this way is limited to there being at least three dogs present in the breed. The points can be collected anyway you wish, but you MUST collect
a minimum of 3 points from Open shows and 3 points from a Champ show. You can collect multiple points at any show, just enter more classes. A form from
the Kennel Club will need to be filled out with all the details from the shows, so keep a note of these. They will need the date, show, class, number
of dogs present, and the name of the judge.
A "STUD BOOK" NUMBER
Gaining a Stud Book number is the way a dog gets a lifetime qualification to enter Crufts.
To gain a Stud Book number the dog must either gain a JW title, win a 1st place in Limit at a Champ show, be placed either 1st 2nd or 3rd in Open at a Championship show, receive a CC or a RCC.
A stud book number does not have to be applied for as it is sent automatically by the Kennel Club in the form of a certificate. (However, like the Crufts Qualifier, this criterion is changed at relevant intervals by the Kennel Club.)
SHOW CERTIFICATE OF MERIT
In order for your dog to be awarded a ShCM it must collect 25 points from general Open Shows. The scale of points awarded is as follows:
- 5 points for Best in Show
- 4 points for Single group Best in Show
Group points are, (a puppy group placing does not gain points)
- 4 points for Group 1 win
- 3 points for Group 2 win
- 2 points for Group 3 win
- 1 point for Group 4 win
- 1 point for Best of Breed (BOB)
- 1 point for Best AVNSC (in group, i.e. Best AVNSC Working)
A minimum of 5 points must be won from Group competition or higher. A form from the Kennel Club needs to be filled out with all
the details as with a JW. There is no time limit on this award (as with JW) so a dog can qualify at any time in its life.
