SNC DRAUGHT TESTS LEVELS BEGINNERS - LEVEL 4
Saturday 01 & Sunday 02 March 2014 - East Hamsworthy Farm, Pancrasweek, Holsworthy, Devon
Test Managers: David Viney & Kay Burridge
"Thank you Roger & Di Vincent for allowing us to use your home for our draught test again this year, it is a brilliant venue for every level of the tests. We had a large entry over the two days, and despite one or two hiccups all went well.
Even the weather was on our side for the most part of the weekend, however when it did start to rain on the Sunday lunchtime, it was only a matter of 20-30 minutes before a river was gushing past the test office and kitchen area, so in the interest of safety we decided to cancel Sunday's Level 2 test.
Quite a few people with newfies from the South West area turned up to meet us all on the Saturday, unfortunately they all left without leaving their contact details - if you are reading this please get back in touch so I can let you know of any other events in the area.
Thank you judges, stewards and especially Bev for the catering, without you this event would not go ahead and lastly thank you everyone who entered, hope you all enjoyed the weekend. We look forward to doing it all again next year."

Judges Reports - Beginners Level
"Thank you to Roger & Di for allowing us to use their home for these tests and thank you to the SNC judge co-ordinator for inviting me to judge at this venue. We had a nice entry for Beginners over the two days, with some novice handlers; only one didn't quite make the grade, but I am sure that team will succeed next time.
Handlers and dogs worked well together for most part, one or two handlers need to remember to communicate with their dogs throughout the test and to use a loose lead. On the whole a good pass level was obtained by everyone. Well done.
At least the weather stayed dry for Beginners Level, a little cold on the Sunday but we were finished before the rain returned. Thank you stewards and Bev for the supply of hot drinks and my fellow judges on both days."

Judges Reports - Level 1
"Held on Di and Roger Vincent farm Holdsworthy, the control section took place on the flat grass area. There were quite a number of natural smells on the grass which took the dogs interest.
The heel work on both entries is certainly of a better standard, most handlers have mastered the art of talking and getting their dogs attention, which extends to a good control performance. The haul took place around the house using lots of natural disciplines.
A good weekend was had by all. Well done the test manager and helpers including the hot drink and food. Thank you for the opportunity to judge at this event."

Judges Reports - Level 2
"We had nine dogs entered with eight passes, all dogs and handlers worked well as a team and the experienced dogs obtained a very good pass for their multi-passes. This showed further test was good for training. The group down stay was of very good standard and went well.
The venue was ideal with plenty of room for the manoeuvring section with lots of trees and different road surfaces, the haul although a little muddy went well. Many thanks for inviting us to judge."

Judges Reports - Beginners Level
"Firstly I have to thank Roger and Diana Vincent for allowing the Southern Newfoundland Club to hold their annual Devon Draught tests at their wonderful home again this year. The varying terrain is ideal for the higher levels and the enclosed flat area is perfect for the control sections.
I would also like to thank my co-judge, Kay Burridge, whose knowledge and expertise is second to none and our call stewards who did a sterling job in directing the dogs and handlers through their paces.
We had four entries, all of whom passed, two of these were novice handlers (although you wouldn't have realised this was the case). Well done to you both. The third dog I have judged before and what a change. He has matured so much in just a few months and worked extremely well with his handler.
Our fourth entry was a first time brace. These two dogs, along with their handler worked really well for a first outing together with just a few tight leads which I'm sure will be overcome with a little more practice.
Luckily we had some nice weather for the beginners test but unfortunately, this did not last and resulted in an early finish with the cancellation of the level two test due to dangerous conditions resulting from some horrendous weather later in the day. Next year Roger and Di, don't forget to book the lovely weather to last the whole weekend!!
A final thank you must go to the rest of the team for all of their hard work including Bev in the kitchen, Dave for his hard work keeping the test flowing and Kay for her exhausting, unrewarded role as test manager"

"We had seven dogs entered and all teams passed. Well done to all, with the weather condition getting worse with heavy rain and hail and the mud starting to form. No problem for the four-legs but not to good for those with two.
Kay did a great job with the paper work which was getting very soggy, Bev with the hot tea and coffees, and Dave with the setting up of the test. Thanks to Kevin for being a great co-judge and Roger for helping with the call stewarding. Thanks for the invite for a very good week-end."
