This year will be the first time the Southern Newfoundland Club will be holding two shows. A little earlier in the year than usual, this was the first, our 8th Open show held at the Kennel Club buildings at Stoneleigh Park. There were 46 dogs making 56 entries. Although lower in numbers compared to our last Open show in 2015, unfortunately like many other clubs and societies, the 2017 show scene is experiencing a general downturn in figures. That said we were not short on quality which made for an enjoyable day for all and especially for our judge, Samantha Deary.

As always there was a lovely relaxed and friendly atmosphere throughout the day with plenty of appreciation being given to the winners of each class. Congratulations to all and to the principle winners (as detailed below).

The show was another success and much appreciation and thanks goes to all who made this possible – to our judge and the stewards, Aaron Humphries and Suzanne Archer for their efficient management within the ring. To the ever hard working SNC committee for their own time and early morning starts to arrive and set up the hall. To Paul Dodd, the photographer who manages to capture so many wonderful memories for us all and for the setup of the publishing of results as they happened on the SNC website. Most of all a huge thank you to all the exhibitors for your entry and dedication to prepare and show your beautiful newfies.

I would just like to add a personal thanks to Rachel Hutchinson and Hedd Richards for their support and guidance given to me during my introduction to this role as Show Manager. I look forward to the next show, our Championship show in November.
