SNC WATER TESTS SECTIONS A & B

Saturday 03 November 2012 - St. Peter, Jersey

Kindly hosted by the Jersey Big Dog Club

Test Manager: David Taylor

"We had 11 dogs entered for the first ever Section A Water Tests in Jersey and 7 for Section B. The weather on Saturday was chilly but bright with a gusting wind at times and intermittent squally rain. This proved to be quite challenging for both dogs and humans alike!

Judges Kay Burridge and Clive Haylock judged our Section A dogs - we had 7 out of the 11 pass, which was a great result for us. Sadly no passes at Section B, but several of the dogs had us all holding our breath - so near and yet ...!

The Jersey Big Dog Club would like to thank the Southern Newfoundland Club for their support and encouragement in our staging this event. Special thanks must also go to Kay Burridge, Geoff Burridge, Clive Haylock, David Viney, Peter Webber, Geoffrey Burns and Graham Hill who all gave up not only their time but gave us so much encouragement and advice over the weekend."

"What a great time we had, a wonderful island and such friendly people."

Judges Reports - Section A

"We would like to thank the Jersey Big Dog Club for hosting this test, and for making us feel so welcome; and the Southern Newfoundland Club for inviting us to judge at the first water test to be held in Jersey.

The venue was superb, despite the wind, and the day was extremely well run by David and his team.

11 dogs were entered into level A, and considering the short time they have been training in water work, all did very well. We had 7 passes on the day, the 4 that didn't make the grade I'm sure will, with a little more work and perseverance, pass the next time they enter.

Our thanks also to the stewards for doing a sterling job, while passing on their knowledge and wisdom to the members of the Jersey Big Dog Club, who were eager to learn as much as possible about both working their dogs and stewarding at test events."

Judges Reports - Section B

"What an honour to judge at Jersey's first water test. The lake was of good quality water, good access and adjacent parking for dogs and vans. The weather on the day was a strong south/west wind pushing boats and handlers away from shore.

We had 4 entries, but sadly no passes, with 3 completing all exercises well, but the controlled swim being the stumbling block. All dogs and handlers worked well and a good distance from shore line, with the strong cold wind. Dogs and handlers were enthusiastic and worked each element well, for such a new club, I was proud to be involved.

Many thanks to all stewards and helpers on the day and well done to David on his first test. Well done Jersey Big Dog Club."
